Pune: The fate of thousands of students from 79 colleges that have no principals hangs in balance as the University of Pune (UoP) has issued notices to these colleges asking them why they should not be de-affiliated. The students need not worry about their year going waste as they will be allowed to appear for exams.  A report by an audit committee headed by Nandkumar Nikam had revealed that the colleges didn’t have principals, adequate number of teaching staff and facilities to conduct exams. The committee was constituted following several complaints about these colleges being in abysmal condition. Upon receiving the report, the varsity has now sent show-cause notices to these colleges asking their managements why their affiliation should not be withdrawn. University Grants Commission  ( UGC ) has recently approved a proposal to launch scholarships for candidates qualifying the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2014. Earlier All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), was providing GATE qualified postgraduate engineering students with a scholarship of Rs 8,000 per month, however as the regulation of GATE has been undertaken by UGC, a new scholarship from UGC is likely to be launched. The UGC scholarship will be effective for all Universities and Colleges for the Master of Engineering (ME) and Master of Technology (M Tech) courses for GATE qualified candidates. In order to apply for scholarships and/or financial aid for Masters degree programmes and PhD programmes in engineering, technology, architecture and other relevant branches of science in institutes recognized by the government, a valid GATE score is essential. National Assessment and Accreditation Council  (NAAC) ending ties with University Grants Commission (UGC) and attaining functional autonomy is seen as a milestone in improving quality of higher education in the country by NAAC high education officials reported a newspaper daily. The parting between NAAC and UGC happened early last month following a dictate from the Union HRD Ministry. According to the dictate, NAAC will function as an autonomous and independent body and will report directly to the HRD Ministry. AN Rai, director, NAAC appreciating the move said that this will help NAAC function without consulting UGC and can set up their own norms, policies or assessment parameters without worrying about UGC's consent. This move will also help the body to be in direct communion with the ministry making formulating rules easier. Financial independence of NAAC however is yet to be decided upon. ४ फेब्रुवारी १९४९ रोजी डॉ. आंबेडकरांनी मांडलेल्या हिंदू कोड बिलाविषयी जाणून घेऊया... स्वतंत्र भारताचे पहिले कायदे मंत्री म्हणून बाबासाहेबांची इच्छा होती कि तमाम स्त्रियांना या जाचक रूढी आणि परंपरा मधून मुक्त करावे आणि ते आपले कर्तव्य आहे असे समजून त्यांनी हिंदू कोड बिल बनवायला घेतले, १९४७ पासून सतत ४ वर्षे १ महिना २६ दिवस बाबासाहेबांनी अविरत कष्ट करून हिंदू कोड बिल तयार केले होते आणि २४ फेब्रुवारी १९४९ रोजी संसदेत मांडले. स्त्रियांना कायद्याने हक्क, दर्जा आणि प्रतिष्ठा प्राप्त करून देण्याचे स्वप्न त्यांनी हिंदू कोड बिलाच्या माध्यमातून पाहिले. हे बिल सात वेगवेगळ्या घटकांशी निगडित कायद्याचे कलमात रूपांतर करू पाहणारे होते. हे सात घटक खालीलप्रमाणे- १. जी व्यक्ती मृत्युपत्र न करता मृत पावली असेल अशा मृत हिंदू व्यक्तीच्या (स्त्री आणि पुरुष दोघांच्याही) मालमत्तेच्या हक्कांबाबत. २. मृताचा वारसदार ठरवण्याचा अधिकार ३. पोटगी ४. विवाह ५ . घटस्फोट ६. दत्तकविधान ७. अज्ञानत्व व पालकत्व. हे सातही विषय स्त्रियांच्या दृष्टीने किती महत्त्वाचे आहेत हे वेगळे सांगायला नकोच ! भारतीय संविधान परिषदेने जात, ध

शाहू महाराजांना कुस्तीचे मोठे व्यसन ..!! कोल्हापूरचा गादीवर राज्याभिषेक झाला तेव्हापासून ते ३ ला पहाटे उठून २-३ तास लढती करत असत ..!! महिन्यातून २ वेळा ते शिकारीला जात असत...तत्कालीन ब्रिटीश कलेक्टर यांना त्यांचा हा छन्द खूप आवडत असे,तेसुद्धा त्यांच्याबरोबर शिकारीला जात असत. शाहू महाराज शिकार करत ती फक्त माजलेल्या वाघांची किंवा अपवाद वगळता कधीकधी जीवावर बेतले कि सांबर किंवा काळवीट याची..!! एके दिवस रोजचा सराव संपवून राजे व ब्रिटीश कलेक्टर जंगलात शिकारीला गेले...आजचा सावज होता  एक वाघ..!! सकाळचा प्रहर टळून दुपार होत आली..शिकारी मंडळी दबा धरूनच होती..!! मात्र पुढे त्यांना वेगळेच पाहायला मिळाले..एक पिसाळलेला गहू रेडा सैरावैरा धावत होता...त्याने जंगलात नुसता हैदोस मांडला होता . राजे व अधिकारी घोड्यावर स्वार झाले व त्याचा पाठलाग करू लागले.. त्या गहू रेड्याने त्या माजलेल्या वाघाला आपल्या शिंगणे मारून टाकले होते..हे पाहून ब्रिटीश अधिकारी घोड्या वरून पाय उतार होऊन झाडावर चढायला धावले!! नेमका हाच फायदा उठवत तो धुंद रेडा त्या ब्रिटीश अधिकारयाकडे आपला मोर्चा वळवत तुफान वेगाने धावत सुटला... हे प

The Directorate of Technical Education (DTE) is now trying a unique way to shift the chaff from the grain.  In a bid to assess which engineering colleges are offering quality education and have ‘employability’ value for students, the DTE now plans to take up the first-of-its-kind exercise by gathering information on campus placements offered to pass-outs from their colleges. DTE director Dr Subhash Mahajan in his notification said that all the colleges should upload the information regarding the placements. The notification asks for information of not just engineering but also other courses like MCA, MBA, pharmacy, MMS and other vocation courses.
