Even as the report of recent survey carried out by Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) raps teachers and educators across the country for their apathy towards upgrading teaching techniques, the study praised University of Pune (UoP) for adopting e-culture in teachers’ training.
The report, released by minister of state for human resource and development (HRD) Shashi Tharoor in New Delhi on February 26, is a critical analysis of the current teacher educator profile in India. The study has strongly criticised the inability of universities to modify/change the curriculum regularly.
UoP head of department of education and extension Sanjeev Sonawane said, “We revised both BEd and MEd syllabi in 2008 and integrated the use of integrated computer technology (ICT) in teacher education. The revision of syllabi came after an extensive training on use of technology for teacher training. CII has appreciated our efforts.”
The report mentioned that Pune university has integrated e-culture and modified the curriculum. “They (student teachers) are trained in using office applications, Internet search engines, photo editor for research, analysis and documentation. This effort has increased classroom interaction and led to enhancement of teaching and learning,” the report stated.
“In 2002, ICT was made a compulsory component in BEd curriculum. In 2005 and 2010, the varsity reviewed and revised the curriculum to include modules on project-based approach to make the course experiential for student teacher,” Sonawane said.
Meanwhile, the CII report states, “According to 90% teacher educators, it was not possible to change or modify the core syllabus due to administrative issues.
